Olney, Md.—December 14, 2011— On November 28th 2011, The Maryland Patient Safety Center, an affiliated organization of the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA), awarded a certificate of achievement to Montgomery General Hospital’s (MGH) Intensive Care Unit, Olney, Md, for having zero central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI) for the first 11 months on the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP): Stop Blood Stream Infection (BSI) initiative. The unit continued to prove their dedication to patient safety and in fact had zero CLABSI for17 straight months.
Inspired by the results from the ICU CLABSI initiative, MGH has taken the initiative to use the same safety practices in all patient care areas. Since the initiative, there have been zero blood stream infections for any patient at MGH for the past 6 months.
